Carestream Health showcases advances in radiology and information management solutions at World of Health IT

Published: 10/29

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - (HealthTech Wire / News) - At the World of Health IT 2008, Carestream Health will showcase a range of innovative IT solutions designed to intelligently manage the digital image explosion, both on- and off-site, together with new radiology solutions that provide added convenience and significant time saving. Delegates can also review, as a works in progress, details of a powerful new diagnostic reading solution designed to synchronise disparate RIS/PACS into an efficient enterprise solution via a SuperPACS™ Architecture. This breakthrough software platform will be debuted by Carestream Health at RSNA in Chicago, November 30 2008.

KODAK CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions are currently delivering advanced IT solutions to many of Europe’s largest eHealth initiatives including R-Bay, the Scotland National PACS and RIS projects, Baltic e-Health project and Uppsala region of Sweden.   These solutions enable consolidation of storage strategies to unify and share disparate clinical data across multiple sites and diverse infrastructure.

New Features For RIS/PACS
New features for the KODAK CARESTREAM RIS/PACS platform provide added convenience and significant time saving. Voice activated controls and voice activated standardised reporting allow radiologists to dictate reports from any location for added convenience and workflow improvement. In addition, Carestream Health is one of few vendors to offer a RIS with the ability to pre-populate radiology reports with patient and exam information captured during order entry, so radiologists do not need to spend valuable time dictating patient and exam information that is already available. This information includes: patient name, date, type of exam, referring physician, symptoms and other patient and exam data.

Next-Generation RIS/PACS
The company’s new powerful new diagnostic reading solution is designed to synchronise disparate RIS/PACS and help optimise workflow by offering:

  • Reshaping of radiologist workflow through intelligent workload balancing of modalities and critical personnel across multiple sites
  • A global patient worklist that provides seamless access, display, and status of all critical patient data wherever it resides
  • Native "power applications" that eliminate the need for multiple systems and streamline reading and reporting of complex cases from anywhere
  • Ability to establish collaboration with all parties responsible for a patient's care, even across multiple sites
  • Workflow and storage grid architecture leverages existing hardware to distribute and store results as well as providing data integrity.

E-Managed Services
Also highlighted at World of Health IT is Carestream Health’s eHealth Managed Services (eMS) organisation. This dedicated business employs Carestream Health’s powerful innovative software platform to provide a portfolio of services to hospitals and radiology centres that choose to rely on outsourcing for disaster recovery or multi site virtual archiving and workflow. The portfolio includes a remotely hosted archive service in a “pay as you go” model that manages DICOM and non-DICOM information to meet long-term storage and disaster recovery needs and eliminates the cost and maintenance of multiple enterprise archives.

Events
Outside of the show floor, Carestream Health will participate in two events, which offer the opportunity for delegates to learn more about the company’s innovative solutions.
Product Tutorial ― Digital Workflow for Mammography Screening Purposes in Denmark
Following a successful bid for Government funding, Ringsted Sygehus in the Sjaelland Region of Denmark initiated development work with Carestream Health for a digital workflow module for mammography screening.

Other radiologists and administration professionals from Hovedstaden and MidtJylland regions were also invited to participate to understand how the community can scale and take advantage of a digital workflow. Data captured was input into a Carestream Health research programme, resulting in development of a number of unique mammography RIS applications, including double blind reading functionality, customised order entry and a dedicated “patient portal”.

Interoperability Showcase
As part of this year’s Interoperability Showcase, Carestream Health will demonstrate Web Access for DICOM Objects (WADO) software that enables open and fast communication via a single platform. Acting as a document source, document consumer and document repository, the Carestream Health platform optimises workflow with easy transmission and sharing of patient documents, regardless of where they were created.  In addition, the use of IHE XDS (IHE Cross Enterprise Document Sharing) attributes can also be used to define storage plans, to ensure that all patient related documents are stored in the appropriate information lifecycle management process for future reference.
R-Bay live at WoHIT 2008

Carestream Health and Mawell will hold a joint live showcase with The Danish Village on the building of R-Bay, a European eMarketplace for radiological services. R-Bay enables the viewing and reporting of images from another organisation, region or nation - thus enabling sharing of healthcare resources on a pan-European basis. R-Bay offers its users not only a consultation portal for referral, image and report exchange but also advanced viewing capabilities and imaging tools that enhance the reporting process and ensures the highest quality.
