Major healthcare center selects InterSystems TrakCare for $11 million project in Chile

West Metropolitan Health Service (SMOcc) to implement InterSystems application as foundation of initiative to enable public health reform

Published: 07/21

SANTIAGO, CL - (HealthTech Wire) - InterSystems Corporation announced that the West Metropolitan Health Service (SMOcc) has selected the innovative InterSystems TrakCare healthcare information system for a major new healthcare initiative. SMOcc is comprised of more than 20 healthcare facilities in the Santiago metropolitan area and it is estimated that this project will result in updating over two million records annually.

The revolutionary initiative is expected to enable major improvements in healthcare delivery for the entire Western region population in Santiago.  InterSystems is a global provider of software for connected healthcare with 30 years of experience in delivering innovative technology to the healthcare sector.

The implementation of this healthcare information system, which will collect, process and store clinical and administrative data, is the first step of a comprehensive reform proposal from the Chilean Healthcare Ministry. The proposal's main objectives are to decrease healthcare costs while improving patient access and overall quality management. The focus is on exceeding the expectations of millions of citizens who are using the public health system by enabling improved service delivery and high quality care for these healthcare consumers.

"With this project, we begin on a path that positions us as leaders in public health clinical and administrative management," said Director of SMOcc Dr. Enrique Ayarza. "As the health reform initiative is implemented, InterSystems TrakCare will enable us to respond to information requests in the most optimal manner possible." The focus is on achieving greater efficiency and quality as well as improving management, cost control and the electronic health records that form the basis of government reform, according to Dr. Ayarza.

A Partnership for Success

InterSystems will work with Quintec and STG Chile to implement the InterSystems TrakCare applications. Quintec, a leading provider of data center services, will manage the database that stores the information that will be exchanged among the Santiago health centers. STG Chile will provide the implementation team responsible for bringing up the system in multiple locations in Santiago.

InterSystems TrakCare was selected after extensive, in-depth evaluation of multiple other software products. "We are pleased with this recognition of InterSystems' ability to address the critical need for connected healthcare in Chile," said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. "The public health sector has taken a significant step by introducing InterSystems TrakCare" he continued. "We expect to see concrete results in terms of process improvements by the end of this year."

InterSystems has the technology needed to enable governments and private organizations to implement connected healthcare. In addition to TrakCare, InterSystems provides InterSystems CACHÉ®, a high-performance object database that makes applications faster and more scalable; InterSystems Ensemble®, a rapid integration platform that enriches applications with new functionality, and makes them connectable; and InterSystems HealthShare™, a platform that leverages existing healthcare applications to rapidly create regional or national electronic health records.
