Methodist Hospital of Southern California enjoys rapid activation of Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager as foundation for integrated EMR
Hospital’s ‘The Next Generation of Care’ multi-phase initiative sees quick ‘Speed to Solution’
Published: 09/08
ATLANTA, GA, USA - (HealthTech Wire) - Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that West Coast-based Methodist Hospital, (Arcadia, Calif.), has successfully activated integrated modules of its Sunrise Clinical Manager™ solution as part of the foundation of the community hospital’s major “The Next Generation of Care” initiative. With this rapid activation, the hospital has made significant strides in a short time towards its goal of an integrated electronic medical record (EMR) to better coordinate care delivery across caregivers and settings.
“Our administration and clinicians alike have been impressed with the smooth and successful implementation of Sunrise Clinical Manager across the hospital’s inpatient areas and the Emergency Department,” said Jason Aranda, Methodist Hospital’s clinical informatics manager. “With Sunrise Clinical Manager, we have been able to achieve significant project milestones in a short period of time – such as training 1,300 users in only six weeks.”
Sunrise Clinical Manager’s integrated modules, Sunrise Acute Care™ and Sunrise Emergency Care™, are components of Sunrise Enterprise™ suite of solutions, which exist within the Eclipsys XA™ architecture, an extended architecture that allows for flexible “big bang” implementations, or a modular approach to building advanced EMR capabilities, such as that achieved by Methodist Hospital.
Best Available Clinical Technology Supports Streamlined Care Delivery
Clinicians have found the Sunrise Clinical Manager applications intuitive to learn and have eagerly embraced the system to help streamline and standardize care delivery, Aranda stated. “This new application supports our commitment to providing our staff with the best available clinical information technology to improve quality, efficiency and turnaround times.”
Methodist Hospital is the region’s leading provider of emergency services, caring for nearly 40,000 patients last year. Sunrise Emergency Care’s interactive Tracking Board is helping the busy ED staff track patients in real time, including their acuity levels, locations, laboratory and radiology orders, and results. Clinicians can quickly prioritize care based on acuity, chief complaint and organizational protocols to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered in the Emergency Department.
Part of ‘Next Generation of Care’
Implementing the new Eclipsys information solutions is part of the 460-bed hospital’s “The Next Generation of Care” multi-phase master plan for its second century of community service. Other aspects of the ambitious initiative to expand care to the central San Gabriel Valley is a planned 2008 ground-breaking for a new patient tower, to include 120 medical/surgical beds, 20 critical care beds, a new Emergency Department with 28 beds plus an 18-bed observation unit, and a new pharmacy.
“Methodist Hospital’s organizational commitment to care quality and patient safety has led its team to successfully implement Eclipsys advanced clinical solutions with quick time to value,” said Matthew Sappern, Eclipsys executive vice president of Professional Services. “The flexibility and interoperability of our underlying XA architecture makes our solutions attractive to healthcare organizations looking for effective ways to evolve their technology capabilities. We are proud to be part of the hospital’s ‘Next Generation of Care’ as it continues to expand and enhance its community service.”
The hospital next plans to automate clinical documentation using Sunrise Clinical Manager, and to implement the solution’s Sunrise Knowledge-Based Charting™, Eclipsys advanced, evidence- and workflow-based nursing documentation solution.
