Musgrove Hospital extends procedures with new interventional imaging system

Artis zee provides superb images and excellent patient access for angio work

ERLANGEN, GERMANY - (HealthTech Wire / News) - Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, has installed a floor mounted AXIOM Artis zee interventional cardiac imaging system from Siemens for coronary angiography, angioplasty and Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT). The new equipment replaces an eight year old setup and is the second Siemens cath lab at the hospital.

The installation is part of the hospitals strategic plan to extend the current CRT services it offers in order to deal with increased demand from the areas ageing population. In the future this will include 24 hour Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) treatment, something which they have only been able to consider since the new cath lab installation.

The Artis zee was specifically selected for its flexibility. Its advanced imaging capabilities assist clinicians with procedures such as biventricular pacing, where precise placement of pacemaker wires is crucial. This operation has also been improved through the systems Multispace feature, which allows free positioning of the C-arm and table to enable excellent patient access. The IC Stent software will be most beneficial when the PCI service begins.

An AXIOM Sensis XP haemodynamic monitoring system was also installed to optimise workflow. The system integrates with the Artis zee and is networked with the existing Sensis. The systems fit seamlessly into the network of cardiac data management and cardiac image management systems installed in the department providing efficient diagnosis and reporting.
