Carestream Health displays innovative CAD systems for digital mammography, other imaging applications

Published: 11/22

CHICAGO, IL, USA - (HealthTech Wire) - Carestream Health, Inc., demonstrated CAD systems that perform analysis of digital mammography exams captured on CR and full-field digital mammography (FFDM) platforms, as well as other CAD applications at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America.

The KODAK Digital Mammography CAD System for KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR Mammography Feature provides CAD analysis for Carestream Health's CR platforms including KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR 850/950/975, and the new KODAK DIRECTVIEW Classic and Elite CR Systems. The company's CAD system for CR is currently available outside the United States. Its digital CAD software designed for use with several FFDM systems was demonstrated as works-in-progress.

The company also showed chest CAD and bone mineral density osteoporosis detection systems that are used in conjunction with CR and DR systems. These solutions are currently available in China.

Additional CAD and computer-aided measurement systems were displayed as works- in- progress:

  • Chest CAD software that is used to detect the proper placement of tubes in ICU patients and provide consistent image rendering that can help identify clinically significant differences in a series of imaging studies;
  • Breast image registration software that performs automatic registration of current and prior breast exams so changes in microcalcifications or other abnormalities can be closely examined;
  • Computer-aided measurement (CAM) of pulmonary lesions, which extracts a lesion and estimates its volume and growth to help radiologists detect lung cancer at an earlier stage; and
  • A managed service offering that allows healthcare facilities to pay for CAD analysis based on the number of times it is used, without a capital investment in hardware and software. This service is designed to help make the benefits of CAD available to a broader segment of the healthcare market.

"We are investing in computer-aided software solutions that facilitate the detection of disease at an earlier stage and can help deliver better patient outcomes," said David Faller, General Manager of the CAD Business, Carestream Health. "In addition, we are developing decision support tools that combine patient data with image analysis. Being able to provide this information quickly and efficiently can assist radiologists in diagnosing patients' conditions." Carestream Health, an independent company, has licensed the KODAK brand for use with its own brands-such as CARESTREAM and DIRECTVIEW-across its portfolio of leading-edge medical imaging and healthcare IT products.
