Biograph mCT sets new standard in hybrid diagnostic imaging

Molecular CT combines metabolic PET information with traditional CT for more efficient disease management

Published: 10/27

ERLANGEN, GERMANY - (HealthTech Wire / News) - Siemens Healthcare has introduced its latest hybrid system, the Biograph mCT for molecular Computed Tomography. This new concept in integrated imaging provides a practical and cost-effective solution for PETCT. It also offers whole-body scanning in just five minutes at an ultra low dose for the optimum workflow efficiency.

With Biograph mCT, a single room can be transformed into a fast, dual-modality scanning facility, where both CT and PET can be operated in one room with one clinician, one schedule and if required, one comprehensive exam. As a result, space, time and costs that would be required to implement such high-end systems separately can be reduced. By using a single scanner, hospitals can also be assured of return on investment whilst providing a more efficient service that strengthens the existing workflow between radiology and molecular imaging departments.

The system obtains functional, anatomical and molecular information during one, noninvasive diagnostic examination, adapting to virtually any patient and any clinical need with higher resolution, contrast and speed. The clinician can use the system according to individual patient requirements; as the industrys highest resolution CT combined with high-definition PET technology, or as a standalone CT. Molecular contrast can also be used for additional metabolic information.

Biograph mCT has unmatched isotropic resolution in CT, combined with its industry-best rotation time to bring out the finest anatomical details in every scan. It is available in detector configurations of 40, 64 and 128 slices, a first in integrated scanners. Its powerful HDPET technology delivers highly detailed images with up to four times as much contrast and it is also the worlds only PET technology that offers 2mm uniform resolution throughout the Field Of View (FOV).

Siemens is leading the way in the evolution of PETCT and we are always looking to maximise the benefits that hybrid systems can deliver, said Lawrence Foulsham, Product Manager for Molecular Imaging and Oncology at Siemens Healthcare. The Biograph mCT combines the superior capabilities of our CT systems with the most advanced PET technology available. Its the ideal solution for hospitals that are looking for an all-in-one, cost effective solution for more efficient disease management.

The Biograph mCT features a small footprint with a large bore, short tunnel and an extra-wide, 227 kg capacity bed to accommodate all kinds of patients including paediatric, bariatric and geriatric. Its large 78cm bore can also help to alleviate claustrophobia and makes the positioning of radiation therapy planning devices, such as breast boards, easier.
